Halting the Hoyas
By Katie Gould
It was an overcast day when the West Forsyth Wolverines faced the Harrison High School Hoyas. Even the dark clouds overhead didn’t stop the Wolverines from having their first, rain-free win.  By halftime a great touchdown was made by wide receiver Dan McDowell, and in the third quarter another wonderful touchdown was made by running back Blake Roberts.  Our offense and defense overpowered the Hoyas, leaving the score 0-13. The crowd wasn’t something to be embarrassed of either; even though it was an away game, people still came to cheer on the Wolverines with huge amounts of team spirit.  The Pride of the West Marching Band only increased the school spirit with their halftime performance of “West Side Story Prologue”.  Band director Mr. Matthews said that he thought his students did great, and so did the audience! Along with the marching band, the cheerleaders also made sure to keep the crowd going with an array of great cheers.
In the end, it was a great game. Cheerleader Hayley Hess stated “The game was exciting!” and no one could agree more.  Our Wolverines certainly made us, and apparently Coach Hepler, happy. “It was a good, great win,” he said. When asked if this was a promising sign, he said, “I hope so; there is a long way to go!” The students at West certainly hope so too and hopefully this game was a good sign for the many more great games to come.
